Photographers – Blending Technical Skills with Art

The same question is asked by newlyweds and business owners: What makes a photographer a good one? Are you able to use Adobe Photoshop? Does it include the ability to spot the right lighting or pose, so images don’t need editing? Is there one thing that makes you a good photographer or something else? There isn’t one thing that makes a photographer more talented than another. A photographer’s prowess is just as much in the “eye of the beholder” as any other artistic form. You can have a photographer be more productive for your business by having certain skills.

Do you have an artistic eye or pure luck?

It’s not common to find a UK photographer with this skill. However there are still freelance photographers out there who advertise their skills, even though they may not be able find the right shot for you or your money. Some photographers will examine every angle and take hundreds of pictures before actually taking a shot. Others will only ever snap two or three photos that turn out to be the right one.

Technical Skill

UK photographers can use either film or digital cameras. While some will say film is still best, others may laugh at it. What are the differences? Many cameras have been designed to give digital photos a “film-like” look. They allow users to attach their lenses to get closer shots and distance shots. A digital photo can still look different than a film one. These differences will not be apparent to the majority of non-photographers so they are unlikely to cause any concern.

Perfection: Editing the Pictures

Adobe Photoshop or similar programs such GIMP are all options if you decide to partner with a professional digital photographer. These programs are designed to help you highlight the best parts and fix any flaws. If a photographer takes photos of your building and notices that the walls are looking dingy when reviewing the image, they should be capable of subtly changing the walls to reduce or eliminate the noticeable dinginess. This is the secret to photo editing: subtle. The average person will not be able to see the photo without noticing that it has been “photoshopped.”

Not all photographers in the UK have editing experience. This skill is highly sought after, but it is very possible that a photographer can be exceptionally talented and have little editing experience. For touch-ups, it is possible to hire a freelance photo editor.

What makes a photographer good?

A professional photographer might not be necessary for the most basic of tasks, such staff photos, which are often taken by small businesses. Sometimes you don’t even need to hire a professional to photograph your building. For “stock” photos, such as images of tranquil forests and birds that add serenity to a website, a professional might be a better choice. Online stores should have professional photographers for photos of their products. Restaurants should also have professional photographers for photographs of their food.
Price

As with most freelance positions, there is not an hourly rate that you can expect to be paid. This varies depending on the photographer. The rate you will pay for a photographer who travels a great distance with heavy equipment is more than the rate your neighbor pays. If you’ve seen the work of this photographer and found it impressive, then you shouldn’t hesitate to pay a bit more for a UK photographer with a strong portfolio.
